Now I'm trying to be more hopeful and trying to figure out books about like, you know, non-violent protest and resistance and uh civil resistance uh what everyone needs to know by Erica Chennowith. Uh had them on Pod Save America a couple months ago.
Answering The Ezra Klein Show's closing question, three books to recommend, in “Jon Favreau on Where the Democrats Went Right” (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/11/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-jon-favreau.html). Quoted from the episode's YouTube auto-captions.
Um Martin Luther King's stride toward freedom which is his book and firsthand account of the Montgomery boy bus boycott. I was reading that again and I find that just a fascinating study in the strategy and discipline necessary for non-violent resistance and protests and and political movement and social movement building. And then um this is not a book that's out yet.

It's out next week, but I just read the long essay um by the author in the New York Times, uh John Fabian Wit, the radical fund, how a band of visionaries and a million dollars upended America about a very wealthy philanthropist who decided to uh donate all of his money to progressive causes back in the 1920s and sort of seated the ground for a lot of the most progressive policies

And so, I just finished Catherine Price's How to Break Up With Your Phone, which has been fantastic and very helpful. Um, what else am I reading right now? because as you were saying that, I actually glanced at my phone. I want to admit this in in full view of the audience and God. I'm telling you. I'm I'm all of those kinds of books now I'm reading. All the offline He's barely conscious, too. It just sort of happened. It is.

And I'm finally reading a visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, which is fantastic and Um and then also I'm reading Patricia Lockwood, No One Is Talking About This, which is a fantastic little weird book about the internet, of course. Jon Favreau, thank you very much. Thanks, Ezra. This is fun. This episode was produced by Roland fact-checking by Michelle Harris, Mary Marge Locker, and Kate Sinclair.

Every entry is a verbatim quote and a link to the public post it came from. Nothing is paraphrased. If it is not on record somewhere public, it is not here.
The verdict is what they actually said: loved and liked are explicit; recommended means they told others to get it; uses means they only say they use it; read is a book on their public shelf with no verdict; mixed and disliked are kept too.
A dashed affiliate link, sponsored or their own label means the post disclosed a relationship. It is shown, never hidden.
The shading behind a date shows how dated a recommendation is for its kind of thing.
The shading behind a date shows how dated a recommendation is, for its kind of thing. Fully green is recent. It drains a quarter at a time as the post gets older, and is empty once it reads as dated.
What counts as old depends on the thing. A laptop praised four years ago has been replaced twice; a book loved twenty years ago is probably still loved. The shading is gone after about:
Hardware, services4 years
Software5 years
Podcasts, courses, other8 years
Books25 years
Stripes mean the post carries no date and the date shown is an estimate. No date at all, no shading.
